Instructional coaches know the importance of helping their teachers develop a growth mindset. But there's another mindset challenge lurking right between their own ears: their own attitudes about the teachers they work with. Maybe a coach has trouble communicating with a teacher. Perhaps their contexts or teaching styles are very different. Whatever the reason, coaches will naturally form judgments about teachers' individual capacities for improvement. It's up to the coach--and their school leader or instructional team--to stay aware of these biases and how they could impact their work with teachers.
