Practicing in a Coaching Session

 

Do your instructional coaching meetings look more like teacher therapy or like sports practice?

Talking about teaching can feel more gratifying, but you're a coach, coach! Without giving teachers the opportunity to *practice* what you want them to do differently, you're not likely to see them make meaningful changes that will stick.

Practice during a coaching meeting can take different forms: practicing decision-making, generating scripts for exactly what they plan to say during class, or role-playing to develop some muscle memory.
